THANK YOU: last night's fundraiser & CAAN UPDATE

Posted by C_A_A_N on Sun 22 May 2011 to C_A_A_N's blog

A one word summary of last night's fundraiser at Club 666: WOW !

I am delighted to inform anyone who's interested that this event raised £380 in total for CAAN!!! Absolutely Brilliant!

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

(Details of this event, as posted on CAAN's wall are here: http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/posts/304523/0 click GUEST to view the post if you are not a member.

I was so impressed I couldn't even express properly what kind of things this money might be used for. CAAN has real money for the first time! Whoop!

This cash is not earmarked and it will be good first of all to have funds available next time we need a train fare for something/someone doing workshops, media or peer support work, for photocopying (omgoodness it's so expensive!).

There are also several projects I am going to be talking to CAANers soon about furthering.

And what do you think? I reckon we need a proper printed CAAN banner to take with us on Slutwalk and any of our own future protests!

THANK YOU to: in particular

The Wonderfully Godly Mistress Julia Pink for letting us use the venue and fundraise for CAAN, I know how important it is to you to support CAAN's work.

Silent Storm for being a lovely gent, organising the event, and me ;-).

Everyone who attended for contributing to the fundraising, for being gorgeous and for making it a fun night.

Everyone who helped in the kitchen.

Everyone who made food and bought chocolate, cake, milk, COFFEE, tea, juice, COfFEE (cos it's so important) and so on.

darkgirl and her poly family for bringing me to and from the venue and being generally wonderful.

Everyone clearing up this morning and everyone who helped prepare the venue.

DarkroseDesires for running their stall, selling CAAN books and donating cash to the fundraising.

The Prof for making and donating some fabulous and unique toys to sell on DarkRose's stall to raise funds. Pinny and Paul for looking after me beautifully in the absence of my own submissive.

My wife for making going out possible (missed you, my queen).

Anyone and everyone I have missed out.

WHAT IS CAAN?

CAAN Consenting Adult Action Network is not a charity, it is a network of individuals and supporting organisations:

We are many different people involving in different ways, everyone a volunteer: publicising, providing platforms and networking opportunities, doing or featuring in media work, walking the streets in protest, giving CAAN resources (eg printing, stationary, printer, copying, binding, making placards, loaning equipment), leafletting, fund raising, making artwork, running workshops, providing us information and expertise, helping people in crisis, sharing ideas, representing CAAN, doing tedious admin work, collecting signatures, running the website, providing spaces, inviting us to participate, mentioning us, photographing us, editing CAAN's book, running CAAN's bank accouts and the associated paperwork, leding us money to prit the book (now paid off, due to brilliant fundraisers), contributing evidence to our collections, the list goes on and on and also not forgetting all of CAAN's visible supporters and all the ways you do this, from publically signing CAAN's mission statement, to contributig your money and skills at fundraisers, and backing CAAN's activists up in debates.

:-)

Most of CAAN's work recently has been behind the scenes, mainly peer support. We've been a little quieter since Erotic Awards, and release of Beyond The Circle.. as more than one of our organisers has been in crisis (including myself, many of you will know I was bereaved of my submissive in February).

Thanks to everyone!

De,

This might be a silly question... when I read your post, I went onto the CAAN website 'cause I thought "humm, I'd quite happily give a few ££ to support CAAN's work". But I couldn't find any easy way on the CAAN website to make a donation, like a PayPal link for example.

I doubt I am the only person who has had that thought, so I wondered whether I was just being thick not finding the easy way to financially support CAAN, or if there isn't an easy way (and if so, why not)?

There is a link to pay to buy the book we published, but no direct link to donate, yes.

That's a good idea, will talk to CAANs admin and our bookkeeper and webmaster about it.

the whole website needs a revamp (we're also without a web person atm)!

but if you look on the book order page (near the bottom) there is a C/o address where you can order the book from by sending a cheque. (made out to CAAN) Donations can be made by using that address and marking the cheque very clearly DONATION :)

(that way paypal don't get a cut)

If "CAAN" has a bank account then anyone in the UK can transfer cash direct from their UK bank account to the CAAN bank account free of charge.

It's usually completed within 2 hours and it's immediately cleared funds.

For some reason fast transfer banking hasn't been widely publicised, other than with Jeremy Clarkeson's stunt in the stun:-p

Some organisations allow direct debit mandates without the need for a signature which is how someone managed to debit his account for £500 because it went to charity.

I've asked my bank if they have an account which can be setup with a bar to direct debits, which would prevent any third party access unless they have your login / password security info to pretend to be you.

They don't at the moment but they are going to look into it.

With CAAN it would be a simple matter to open 2 accounts, only ever publicise one and have the bank transfer any cash over a certain amount into the second account at the end of each day.

Even if someone did try to commit fraud, the bank covers that and refunds cash and with a minimal amount in the public account any fraud would be small.

And the best bit, PAYPAL get no cash whatsoever:-)
