We don't know the full list of winners yet but just got a very excited phonecall to say both Degenerate(Activist of the Year for her work as CAAN's National Convenor) and Jane Fae (Writer of the Year, including her booklet 'Beyond the Circle') have won their respective awards.
Fantastic and well deserved good news ![]()
PS if anyone wants to buy a copy of 'Beyond the Circle' published by CAAN and written by John Ozimek/Jane Fae follow the link:

MORE than well deserved. This should cheer De up no end, having had some worrying times lately x
He looked into My eyes, and I almost died. Then I remembered what I was and half killed him.
Huzzah! Well done, all!
Ah semen. What is it about that ridiculous white secretion that pulls down the corners of an Englishman's mouth?

Thanks for the update
further update of CAAN's attendance last night would be this:
My costly attendance last night was unnecessary and a waste of my desperately needed personal resources, but we were told it was very important to have someone there by seven (judges decided days before who won) .. the event started two hours late.. and basically we were the only winners who didnt get to accept the award on stage or say anything so we lost the opportunity to use this for publicity or anything useful or even identify myself to anyone.
It would be good to hear the views of other CAAN people what we should do with this token gesture of a golden penis.. and whether to keep any kind of relationship with this archaic organisation which is too busy patronising disabled people to let us join in on an equal basis.
Don't know if someone from CAAN will be going tomorrow after all, despite me having spent hours writin a powerful speech designed to pull more people into active campaigning. Given how I was excluded yesterday by an inaccessible stage, venue which was impossible to move around independently except for outside in the cold.. and a very rude awards compere, I don't think anyone I know will be willing to waste further personal time, energy and money on publicly supporting this event.

This is upsetting to hear. It could have been so much better, and would have hoped something like this would have been good and present a good public image.
Such a shame...

De, I think it's abysmal that your were so shoddily treated, but fantastic that you won. Is it possible to separate the two things, so the one doesn't completely spoil the other for you?
Congratulations and commiserations and very best wishes

Thank you (I think?) for the penis trophy: From 'Campaigner of 2010' http://clairlewis.livejournal.com/19988.html
Here are the thanks I would have given to the judges and people in CAAN and our supporters, were I enabled to do so.
Here is the speech I would have given today, which CommanderBondage delivered on my behalf.

I've noted the irony of the inaccessability of the event before, and am sorry you didn't get to speak, but congratulations nonetheless.
